Kayapo Culture
Help save the Kaypo Tribe's culture
#SavetheKayapoculture
The Kayapo are one of the main native groups that remain in the amazon rainforest. They resisted assimilation and are known as fierce warriors due to the fact that they would raid enemy tribes and fought among themselves. They have fought off squatters, loggers, miners, and eventually brazilian government officials to preserve their own land and culture.
Most Kayapo men hunt and build homes while most Kayapo women fish, cook, and care for their children. They have many traditions in their culture from stretching out children's ears to increase their wisdom to the way they dress with beads to body paint. They also have many different ceremonies to celebrate different aspects of life.
The main dangers that face the Kayaop is defoestation, mining, and the creation of dams. Deforestation has caused a decrease in the size of the rainforest, which damages the environment they live in. Mining is bringing people into their lands and is creating large operations which harm their land and culture. The creation of dams is a large problem for the Kayapo since the dams cause flooding, drought, and pollution.
The Kayapo have adapated their culture in order to preserve it by using shotguns and bows to hunt. They use modern metal boats in order to travel further and faster. They use airstrips in order for outsiders to easily access their villages. The Kayapo also use lighters to start fires.
#SavetheKayapoculture This hashtag will be used to allow people to know more about the importance of preserving indigenous cultures and preserving their land. These indigenous people need to keep their own culture.
